Obituary for Wallace L. "Wally" Clever Jr.

Wallace L. "Wally"  Clever Jr.
Wallace "Wally" L. Clever, Jr., 89, of Meadville, passed away, Monday, May 25, 2015 at Meadville Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born on July 20, 1925 in Freeport, Pennsylvania a son of Wallace L. Clever, Sr. and Martha Wilson Clever. He married Charlotte Mortimer on July 2, 1949. She preceded him in death on February 17, 2015.

Wally attended Freeport High School and served his country with the United States Navy from November 1943 to April 1946. He served in the Pacific Theater aboard the USS LST 1029 as a gunners mate. He was also a part of the invasion fleet with General McArthur when he made his return to invade the Philippines.

He was employed by Knox Glass before moving to Meadville, he was then employed with American Viscose Company (Avtex) until it's closing; subsequently he drove school van for several years.

Wally was of the Methodist faith.

He was a life member of Huidekuper VFW Post 2006; attended the Meadville Senior Center; he enjoyed Wii bowling, shooting pool, and watching the Steelers and Pirates.

Wally was an avid archer and he served as president of the Knox Archers Club for many years.

He is survived by two sons, Allen L. Clever and his wife Marcy of Bay Village, Ohio and Larry P. Clever and his wife Mary of Schaumburg, Illinois; five grandchildren, Matthew Clever of Bay Village, Ohio, Jason Clever and his wife Stephanie of Lakewood, Ohio, Sergeant Paul Clever and his wife Ashley of Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, Jana Clever and her husband Nate Sharadin of Columbus, Ohio, and Molly Clever and her husband Crosby Hipes of Buckhannon, West Virginia; a great grandchild, Lucy Anne Hipes; and two sisters, Beverly Clever of Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania and Mary Ellen Senkle of Oceanside, California.

In addition to his loving wife, Charlotte; Wally was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Martha Jane Clever; and an infant granddaughter, Holly Ann Clever.

There will be no services at this time.
