George Harry Porter, 86, of Ramona, California, passed away, Monday, May 4, 2015 at Palomar Medical Center in Escondido, California, surrounded by his family. He was born April 30, 1929 , son of Albert J. and Cecile A. Porter of Conneaut Lake. George was married to Mable Lenore (Locke) Porter for 66 years, she survives.

George was a father, husband, pilot, inventor and business man. After moving from Meadville, he went on to be an electrical engineer for major aerospace companies in California. In 1960’s he started his own retail communications business. An active off-road vehicle enthusiast, he invented an improved dune buggy whip in 1969. The Buggy-Whip now has many models and over 500,000 buggy whips have been sold around the world as a recreational off-road and mining safety product. He had a life-long love of aviation and flying. He got his pilot’s license before he got his driver’s license. Over the years, he has owned several planes, but his favorite was his Staggerwing Beechcraft which he refurbished in his garage.

In addition, George is survived by 5 children, Alan (Vicki), Terry (Jan), Radena, Russell (Laura) and Jeffery (Elizabeth), 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 16th at 12:00pm at Roofner-Collins-Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 544 Chestnut Street, Meadville, with Pastor David Brumagin, chaplin of Meadville Medical Center, officiating.

Entombment will take place in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Vernon Township.
